"Grads and Dads" Blog Hop & Crop: Day 4

I'm so excited to share this little project I created for a very special Graduate! I'm sure it will come in very handy with gift cards being the ideal gift. My husband will be receiving one of these too - since his gift cards last him much longer than mine do!

So let's get started.

You'll need:

6 Plastic Id Badge protectors (Vertical) - they come in a pack of 12 for about $2 at Walmart.
2 pieces of Grunge paper cut to 4" x 2 3/4"
1 Tim Holtz Ornate Plate
1 Tim Holtz Swivel Clasp
Small piece of transparency
Prima flowers and a pearl for center
2 metal rings to bind.

Cut the ends off of the ID badges.
Emboss, paint and sand your grunge paper. I also chose to spray mine with a clear coat.

Cut your piece of transparency to fit the Ornate Plate. Cut out a stamped bird and coat paper of Ranger's Crackle Accents. Then cut a slit in your transparency and slip that little bird through.

Now for the flower. You probably have seen this tutorial a million times but rather than cutting my own flowers I used Prima's plain white flowers. You will need to cut as shown in the picture. I curled the edges a little. After layering and gluing I felt the flower needed another layer so I added an "untouched" flower to the bottom. After doing all the piecing and gluing spray with Tattered Angels Mist.

Now the fun part! Assemble your project as shown. Don't worry about the ID badges being shorter than the covers. They are intentionally that way. Once you punch holes to put your book together the metal rings will not allow the gift cards to slip in all the way. Which is perfect for easy removal of your gift card!

HINT: Make life easier for yourself and create a little template on a scrap piece of chipboard or paper so you know exactly where to punch your holes on each page. ALSO: I took a small circle punch and slid it to punch a half circle on 1 side of each badge. This allows easier access to the sleeves.

Hope you enjoyed this quick and easy project. Great idea for those people who don't rush off to spend all their money!

Make one for your next Grad, a bridal shower, a Christmas "collection" of gift cards for that special person, or even yourself.... no gift cards? (don't worry I spend mine right away too) Tuck receipts or pictures in the plastic sleeves. There's a million uses for this handy little book!

Now it’s your turn! Create a project using this tutorial and upload it to the Scrapbook Heaven Gallery (or some other online gallery) by June 21st. Post a link to your project in the comments section here as well. One lucky random winner will be selected to receive a prize from Scrapbook Heaven!

Be sure to return tomorrow to see what your next stop is.

Check out Carla's blog today, The Pursuit of Scrappyness, for your next blog hop challenge -- a SKETCH! Follow the link to see what else is involved in her challenge :-)

Here are a few quotes that would be good to use on scrapbook layouts. Enjoy!

~ You are not here merely to make a living. You are here in order to enable the world to live more amply, with greater vision, with a finer spirit of hope and achievement. You are here to enrich the world, and you impoverish yourself if you forget the errand. -- Woodrow Wilson

~ You can do anything you wish to do, have anything you wish to have, be anything you wish to be. -- Robert Collier

~ Never tell people how to do things. Tell them what to do and they will surprise you with their ingenuity. -- General George Smith Patton, Jr.

~ No bird soars too high if he soars with his own wings. -- William Blake

~ Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall. --Confucius

~ Nothing splendid has ever been achieved except by those who dared believe that something inside them was superior to circumstances. -- Bruce Barton
